Hullo all!

Kenyon is my full name, but most call me Kenny. I’ve attained a ripe age of 21 years, most of them spent on a grain and cattle farm in beautiful Iowa. I’m a homebody and a farmboy, but have since become a bit of a world traveller. I’ve studied for a semester at Oxford University, hiked mountains in England and Wales, been taken in by the friendliest orphans in Honduras, eaten various kinds of raw fish in Holland, sang Frank Sinatra karaoke in a rowdy Belgian pub, gone to (the far more rowdy) Oktoberfest in Germany, sprinted up a half mile of the Bavarian alps to see a sunset, and layed a smooch on my girlfriend at the top of the Eiffel Tower at night.

My last semester was spent with an exchange program at Oxford University where I took a primary tutorial on Linguistic theory and a secondary tutorial on C.S. Lewis. A “British landscapes” course was also required and continues to be a subject of interest for me. I’ve just completed my BA in interdisciplinary studies of linguistics, foreign languages, and theology. However, I’m planning on remaining at Dordt College another year to obtain a major/minor combination in English and philosophy—mom got a job at the school (half tuition), I’m not ready to decide on grad school, and my girlfriend is a year younger than me (ahem—oh, the hazards of love).

Intellectually, my interests obviously include linguistics and foreign languages. For anyone fellow language students out there wondering what languages I’ve studied, I can speak Spanish well, have an intermediate grip on French (enough to order pizza and give directions to taxi drivers in Paris) and Dutch (enough to ask an old Dutchman how to eat the local smoked eel properly), and have studied both Greek (koine) and Latin (classical) for a few years. I’m hoping fellow blogger and Middle-East correspondent Joel Veldkamp will teach me Arabic someday.

But, my academic interests are by no means confined to languages, as evidenced by my eclectic path of study. To up the nerd-factor of this blog (already maintained high by Joel Veldkamp’s love of sci fi), I’ll come clean with my love for comic books. You’ll most likely see writings on that. You’ll also find all the other interests typical for such a blog: theology, philosophy, literature, art, etc.

You’ll discover more about me through my writings, naturally. Cheers.
